Library Book Clubbers Meet Author, Celia C. Perez Monday, November 2! We're so excited!

Celia C. Pérez is the daughter of a Mexican mother and a Cuban father.  Her debut book for young readers, The First Rule of Punk, was a 2018 Pura Belpré Award Honor Book, a 2018 Boston Globe-Horn Book Awards honor book, a winner of the 2018 Tomás Rivera Mexican American Children's Book Award, a Junior Library Guild selection, and was included in several best of the year lists including the Amelia Bloomer List, NPR's Best Books of 2017, the Chicago Public Library's Best of the Best Books, the New York Public Library's Best Books for Kids, School Library Journal's Best of 2017, The Horn Book Magazine's Fanfare, and ALSC's Notable Children's Books. Her second book for young readers, Strange Birds, was published by Kokila, an imprint of Penguin Young Readers in September 2019.
She lives in Chicago with her family where, in addition to writing books about lovable weirdos and outsiders, she works as a librarian. She is originally from Miami, Florida, where roosters and peacocks really do wander the streets. - from Celia C. Perez's website.

Dear Students,

We are officially out of our English The First Rule of Punk copies. We do have 10 Spanish copies available and through SBPL Hoopla, an ebook is also available if you'd still like to join. Our first meeting is Wednesday at 3:30pm!

Calling all 4th-6th grade students! Join District Librarian, Mrs. Allison and the SBPL Librarians for a seasonal book club experience! This fall we'll read The First Rule of Punk by Celia C. Perez.

Join the book chat and zine making meeting October 28, 3:30pm. Join a Zoom with the author,  Celia C. Perez on Monday, Nov. 2, 3:30pm. Sign up HERE! 

If you would like to join our Fall Book Club and receive a FREE copy donated by the SBPL, please sign up HERE! We have 40 copies in English and 10 in Spanish which will be sent home (along with zine making materials) upon book cub sign up. 

Watch La Colina Teacher Librarian, Mrs. Woods review of The First Rule of Punk by Celia C. Perez. We will join our junior highs when we Zoom with the author on Nov. 2. Thank you Mrs. Woods!

We miss you! We are excited to share that we've placed our library programs and services on our digital library so you can access everything from home!

NEW: Placing holds on books through the Destiny Catalog is the new way to check out books. TK-6 can place up to 4 virtual "holds" on library books which means, students can check out up to 4 books. Students may keep books for 4 weeks or return them earlier. 

Click the "How-To Videos" button at the top of this page to learn how to place books on hold and more! Then, explore the tabs to familiarize yourself with our library programs, activities and services. ​
